The admission process must be followed in three progressive stages.
This first stage is aimed at evaluating the applicant's profile and formulating a response to his/her application.
First of all, the applicant has to fill out the online application form. Before filling in this form, please read all the information below:
Dossier
The documents listed below must be sent concurrently with your on-line application and will be evaluated for admission by an internal committee composed of professors from each programme applied to. The deadline for consignment of application materials is the 30th of March. Remember that the earlier you send in your application and material, the better the possibility of having an early response regarding admission. Again, incomplete documentation and/or applications will NOT be considered, so please pay close attention to the checklist furnished below.
Please separate the documentation into the sections given below. Place all documentation, unfolded, in ONE large envelope. For EACH study choice you have made, you must include a folder consisting of PHOTOCOPIES of your application material (exception: documents in sealed envelopes such as transcripts or letters of recommendation should not be opened and photocopied; the admissions office will open, verify, and photocopy these documents). In other words, if you have applied for a first and second Laurea Specialistica/Magistrale choice, your application packet should consist of 1 folder of original documentation for the admissions office and 2 folders of documentation for the specific programmes; include in each folder only the letter of motivation specific for that programme, not both letters of motivation.

Those non-EU students without residence in Italy who have been accepted to the University will then need to have completed the second stage of the admissions process, application to the Italian Embassy/Consulate to obtain a visa. Remember that, in order to obtain a visa and then the permit of stay, the applicant will have to demonstrate to have a medical insurance policy valid in Italy. Please note: there is some overlapping of the first and second stages of the application procedure. For this reason, candidates may need to complete the second stage before being informed about the successful completion of the first stage. Non-EU candidates who do not complete this second stage cannot be considered for admission, as they will not be able to receive the student visa.
This second stage is aimed at formalizing the documentation required to obtain the visa and to complete the enrolment process at university.
To submit a visa application, non-EU applicants must go to the Italian Embassy/Consulate or Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in their own country of residence by a deadline that is set annually by the Italian Ministry of Education (Ministero dell'Istruzione dell'Università e della Ricerca - MIUR). The applicant will be requested to fill-out a document provided by the Italian Embassy/Consulate/IIC, and must present the following documents to the visa office:
Necessary documents:
All documents (except the detailed study programmes) written in a foreign language must be accompanied by an official translation in Italian; the translation must be obtained by the applicant and must be legalized by the Italian Embassy/Consulate in the country of residence of the applicant. Information about the official translation and legalization is available at the Embassy, Consulate, or IIC. The Embassy/Consulate/IIC will then send these documents, along with a “Declaration of Value” (Dichiarazione di Valore) related to the Bachelor Degree or equivalent directly to the University. These documents are needed for eventual university registration. Students should start gathering documents as soon as possible, because this process, including certification and translations, can take some time.
Note: We remind the applicant that, if Politecnico di Milano does not receive from the Embassy/Consulate/IIC the correct application along with its complete documentation coherently with the dossier sent to the University for admission, the application will be considered null and void.
By the end of August the Embassy/Consulate/IIC will issue an entrance visa for study purposes to all those applicants who are admitted. Admitted persons who request the entrance visa will need to prove that they possess sufficient funds to study in Italy for two years.
Upon arrival in Italy, all admitted students must present themselves to the Welcome Desk of their respective campuses to begin the enrolment procedure. Instructions will at that point be given to admitted students concerning the next steps to follow. Within eight days of the student's arrival in Italy, he/she must apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) for study purposes at one of the qualified Post Offices located in the city where he/she intends to take up residence. At the same time he/she will also have to apply for a fiscal code (codice fiscale) that will be required for the enrollement at the Politecnico di Milano.
Candidates who during the second stage did not deliver the appropriate documents to the Embassy/Consulate/IIC will not be able to register at the Politecnico di Milano University.
